More than any other company, camping companies rely on nature to thrive. Here at Gordigear, we understand that our success is intrinsically linked to healthy ecosystems, and of course sustainability is part of our DNA. Like our customers, we recognise that camping not only reduces our carbon footprint (compared to air travel, for example), but also brings people closer to nature and promotes environmental awareness. To take an even more active approach, Gordigear has launched its "One Tree Per Tent" campaign in collaboration with tree-nation. For every tent we sell, we plant a tree. There are a multitude of things we could have done, so why plant trees? First of all, it is a very emotional and personal choice. All of us here at Gordigear live and love camping and there are a handful of scenarios that are appreciated by many and make this lifestyle so inimitable. Waking up to the sound of waves on a secluded beach. Experiencing the silence of a starry night in the middle of a remote African desert. Falling asleep to the sound of rustling leaves in the middle of a forest. And it's this last experience that is enhanced by the elevated perspective of a vehicle-based roof tent. We feel very at home under trees when we're out and about in our "mobile tree houses". There's something very special about looking out the tent window and being greeted by a laughing kookaburra. There's something very special about being eye-to-eye with a Black Forest bee-eater. There's something very special about getting within touching distance of bats that have set off on their evening feeding trips. So it's not surprising that we're so passionate about saving trees and forests. But it's more than just an emotional choice. It also makes good business sense! We see every tree planted as an investment. An investment that will pay off for many generations to come. Trees are our main weapon against climate change. They capture and store massive amounts of carbon, reducing CO2 in the atmosphere. Trees provide protection against erosion and improve soil quality. Deforestation is a major cause of flooding and the devastating effects it has on human and animal life worldwide. Trees purify water and provide the oxygen we all breathe and need to live. They are rightly called the lungs of the planet. Trees provide essential shade and forests around the world are home to all kinds of flora and fauna. Some are endangered, others necessary for the production of medicinal compounds. Forests have a positive impact on the mental wellbeing of those who are in them. Simply put, a tree planted today will have a positive impact on us and our environment for decades to come.
